How to Improve Your Laundry With a Small Budget

Getting things done on a shoestring budget is always stressful.

But cutting costs doesn’t mean you have to cut corners. In fact, it can often give you a huge edge on your competition and make your path to success that much shorter.

I want to share three ways you can improve your laundry without breaking the bank.

First up, let’s talk tech.

1. Focus on Convenience

What’s the first thing a customer looks for with a laundry business?

Convenience.

Everything else is secondary. Customers want to be able to come in, get their clothes cleaned, and get back to their lives in as little time as possible.

And today’s technology is helping with this effort. Smarter tech, like a mobile payment system, can help save your customers’ time and improve their perception of your business in the long run.

As you step up your game and start using technology to your advantage, you’ll become the go-to spot for customers that need fast and reliable service.

2. Be Smarter About Your Equipment

It may not seem like a great idea when you’re on a budget to jump straight to top-of-the-line equipment, but it can be a much better idea for the long term.

First of all - newer equipment is going to help you take advantage of the tech we just talked about. You’ll improve convenience from day one.

And secondly, you’ll also save money on repairs, maintenance, and utilities. Today’s equipment is much more efficient with water and electricity, which means you could actually save money.

Consider jumping in at the top with manufacturers like Continental Girbau. You may take a hit up front, but the long-term savings will be much better for your budget and your stress levels in the future.

3. Keep Your Customers Happy (and Coming Back!)

Retaining customers will always be more profitable than winning new ones.

On average, it costs six to seven times more to win one new customer than it does to keep an old one.

So when you need to prioritize your efforts on a smaller budget, the clear winner is retention. That means doing everything you can to make your store and customer experience pleasant.

We’ve already looked at two ways to do that - mobile payments and top-of-the-line machines - but what else can you do?

Here are some ideas:

  • Free high-speed wifi (none of that 256 kb/second stuff).
  • Reading or kids areas.
  • TV’s, video games, or other entertainment options.
  • Keep your store clean, and optimize your interior design.

These options may cost you a bit up front, but the increase in customer retention and revenue is worth the investment. You’ll show the customers you have that you’re the best, and potentially keep them for life.

Be the Boss You Want to Be

Being the boss of a laundry business isn’t what it used to be.

Modern technology, efficient machines, and customer-centric ideas are changing the way laundries operate and grow. Even small-budget operations can start to take advantage of these changes.
